How to add stops using extended search results

This feature is only available to UK drivers.

Google Maps covers over one billion kilometers of mapped roads, but occasionally, some individual addresses are not yet recorded in Google Maps.

Drivers in the UK can use extended search results, which provide additional address data not currently available in Google Maps.

  • Add a new stop to your route

  • If the complete stop address is not in the initial search results > scroll down

  • Tap > See results from extended search

  • Select the complete stop address from the extended search results

  • Turn-by-turn navigation will provide directions to the exact address location

How to add sticky access instructions/information to a stop

You can add access instructions to a stop eg a gate code or location of a key.

The info you add will stick to that address. Whenever you add that address again in the future the access instructions will be there.

  • On a stop click > Access instructions

  • Add whatever info you want in the text field

  • Select 'save as default for this address' and the info will stick to that stop forever

  • You can edit or clear access instructions at any time

How to easily find packages in your vehicle when you arrive at a stop

How to use stop ID numbers

When a stop is added it is automatically given a unique stop ID number.

Once you tap > Confirm on a route, this identifier will never change, even if the stop is moved to a different place on the route or edited.

You can choose between 2 styles of stop ID:

  • Modern uses alphanumeric stop IDs eg A1 A2 A3 A4

  • Legacy uses numeric stop IDs eg 1 2 3 4

You can also choose at what point stop IDs are added

  • After optimizing the route

  • As stops are added

You can change these settings in your app > Click here to read more about Settings.

This can be useful for finding parcels in your vehicle:

  • Write the stop ID on the package

  • When you arrive at that address the stop ID is shown

  • Look for the package with that stop ID written on it in your vehicle

How to use package finder to load your vehicle

You can add information about where each parcel is in your vehicle to make it easier to find at the delivery address.

  • Tap > Load vehicle

  • Select your deliveries

  • Select a place in the vehicle for these deliveries

  • Tap > Front/Middle/Back, Left/Right, Floor/Shelf

  • Tap > Set place

  • On a stop you will now be able to see the package location eg BLS = Back, Left, Shelf

How to add a stop and take a photo of the package

If you add stops by scanning address labels, you can also take photos of packages to help you find them when you arrive at a stop.

  • Go to add a stop by scanning an address label

  • Tap > Add stop and take photo

  • Add the stop address

  • Once the stop address is added the camera will automatically go to photo mode

  • Take a photo of the package

  • This photo is added to the stop details

  • When you arrive at the stop, tap the camera icon on the stop to see the photo and find that package in your delivery vehicle

  • You can also add a photo of a package when you edit an existing stop by tapping the camera icon

How to add a break to your route

If you need to add planned rest periods to your route for things like eating, bathroom breaks, or refueling/cleaning your vehicle, you can.

Time spent on a break period is automatically considered when optimizing a route, which helps maintain accurate stop times from start to finish.

  • Create a new route

  • Tap > Add a break

  • Set a time window during which to take a break eg 12 - 2 pm

  • Set how long the break period should be eg 30 mins

  • Optimize the route, and the break will be added

  • The break is visible on the map as a coffee cup icon and in the stops list

When you reach the point in your route where a planned break appears, you can choose to take your break or skip it.

If you choose to skip your break, the times for the remaining stops on the route will automatically be updated to reflect the fact that you are no longer taking time to stop for a break.

How to set a start/end time and location for your route

  • Click on the start location on the map or stop list to edit it

  • Add a route start location address and start time

  • Add a route end location address and end time

We recommend selecting Roundtrip if you are a courier, as this will make your start and end locations the same. If you don't set a start or end location, your current location will be used instead.

Adding a start and end time will also help Spoke Route Planner consider expected traffic when optimizing routes.
